GPL: Kotoko go top after narrow win Over Accra Lions

Asante Kotoko climbed to the top of the Ghana Premier League table after securing a crucial 1-0 victory over Accra Lions on Sunday, 6 October 2024 at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors’ unbeaten start to the season continued, thanks to Albert Amoah’s decisive second-half strike.
Buoyed by their midweek triumph over Nsoatreman in an outstanding fixture, Kotoko came into the match with momentum, controlling the game from the outset.
Despite their dominance, the Lions’ defence proved resilient, denying Kotoko any real chances and keeping the game goalless at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, Kotoko finally found the breakthrough. A pinpoint cross from Saaka Dauda found Albert Amoah, who slotted home to give his side a deserved lead.
Kotoko had opportunities to extend their lead, with substitute Elvis Kyei Baffour missing a clear chance after being expertly set up by Peter Amidu.
However, the lone goal was enough to secure all three points for Prosper Narteh Ogum's side.
The victory, their third in five games, propels Asante Kotoko to the summit of the league table, leapfrogging Medeama SC.
They now prepare to face Legon Cities on Saturday, 12 October 2024, as they aim to maintain their impressive form and extend their lead at the top of the standings.
