The Ghana Weightlifting Association (GWA) has officially announced the media launch of the 2025 African Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship, a prestigious event set to spotlight the next generation of weightlifting talent across the continent.

The announcement was made by the President of the Association, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, who described the championship as a major opportunity to celebrate youth excellence and foster continental unity through sport.

“This championship will bring together the continent’s most talented young and junior weightlifters to compete, inspire, and showcase the future of African weightlifting,” he said.

The invitational competition is expected to draw top-tier athletes, coaches, and sports officials from across Africa, with Ghana playing host to what promises to be an electrifying display of strength, discipline, and youth empowerment.

Organizers say further details regarding the venue, dates, and participating countries will be shared in the coming weeks.

The GWA is also calling on the public, media, and corporate sponsors to support the initiative as preparations intensify.

“This is more than a sporting event — it's about lifting the spirit of youth sports across Africa,” Mr. Shaib added.

The 2025 African Youth & Junior Weightlifting Championship is poised to be a landmark event in Ghana’s sporting calendar and a significant boost for the country’s efforts in developing young athletic talent.
