Grusah appeals for a GPL striker in Ghana’s AFCON squad
Veteran football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah has appealed to Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac to consider Ghana Premier League strikers in his AFCON squad.
Three local players were included in Milovan’s previous 28-man squad for November’s World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.
These were Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Richard Attah, Philemon Baffour of Dreams FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko Captain Ismail Abdul Ganiyu.
The Kumasi King Faisal President believes the Black Stars have a goal-scoring problem with Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew, Beitar Jerusalem’s Richmond Boakye Yiadom, Yeni Malatyaspor’s Benjamin Tetteh and Genoa’s Caleb Ekuban, misfiring for Ghana.
He insists there’s quality in the local league to solve the problems in the Black Stars.
“I am appealing to our coach and the technical people in the Black Stars: They should open their eyes because scoring is a problem”, he said.
“I don’t see the reason we don’t give local players a chance”, he wondered.
He told Accra-based TV3 that “we should promote some of our [local] players”.
When probed further, Grusah tipped Great Olympics’ goal poacher, Maxwell Abbey and King Faisal’s Zubeiru Ibrahim, as good enough to play at the highest level for the national team.
Abbey has scored six goals in the ongoing Ghana League while Zubeiru has four goals in six matches.
