Former Accra Hearts of Oak Managing Director Neil Armstrong Mortagbe believes the Ghana Premier League champions will retain their title despite a slow start to the season.

The Phobians’ title defence is not going as planned as the Accra giants are winless in their first three league matches.

The rainbow club lie 11th on the current league table after three draws against Legon Cities, WAFA and Aduana Stars.

These results have left Hearts six points adrift League leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who hold a perfect record this season.

Despite the disappointing start for Hearts, Neil Armstrong Mortagbe is optimistic Samuel Boadu’s team will bounce back stronger in subsequent matches.

The sports marketer links the team’s slow start performance to that of last season’s where they eventually overturned their horrific start into a glorious ending when they won the Ghana Premier league for the 21st time.

“This is Accra Hearts of Oak. We started the league last season; we all knew where we were. We ended the league as champions. We ended with the FA Cup also. We have done it before. We can do it again,” Mr Mortagbe told Class91.3FM.

Just like last season, Hearts of Oak accrued only three points out of their opening three games and finished as eventual champions.

It started with a 1-0 home loss to Berekum Chelsea, a 3-0 defeat to Medeama before finding their first win against Ebusua Dwarfs in a 2-1 victory.

Having similar points in the season, Hearts of Oak are yet to find their first win of the season as they square it off with Ashantigold on Sunday, 21 November 2021.

Ashantigold are placed tenth on the Ghana Premier League table with four points and are one point above Hearts in the Ghana Premier League.
