Ofori leads Maritzburg closer to African qualification
Ghana’s number one stopper and captain of South Africa’s Professional Soccer League (PSL) side Maritzburg United, is gradually leading his side to a probable African Cup competition next season.
Richard Ofori was in great form as his side defeated Kaiser Chiefs in an Absa Premiership match in the ongoing South African PSL.
According to reports, he was the first to make a save when smart work from Kaiser Chiefs’ Billiat afforded Nurkovic time and space to shoot.
He saved well, though, and the match went into half-time deadlocked at 0-0.
His side are now sixth with 33 points from 22 matches.
They are trailing Bidvets Wits who are 5th with 33 points, but have played 17 matches.
Kaiser Chiefs are still first despite the loss with 45 points from 20 matches.
Orlando Pirates are second with 39 points from 21 matches.
Defending champions Mamelodi Sundows are third with 38 points from 19 matches while SuperSports United are fourth with 34 points from 22 matches.
The first two clubs qualify for the Champions League while the third-placed team play in the CAF Confederations Cup.
