Otto Addo names 33-man squad for Afcon qualifiers, 4-nation tournament
Otto Addo, the coach of Ghana's senior national football team, the Black Stars, has released a 33-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.
The majority of the players in the call-up are foreign-based with two coming from the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Andre Ayew makes a comeback as captain, after missing out on the World Cup playoff against Nigeria.
His deputy, Thoman Partey, is not part of the coach’s lineup due to injury.
Mubarak Wakaso has also been excluded from the team after not playing competitive football since November 2021.
Bechem United winger Augustine Okrah and Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh will join the national team in their debut call-up.
The Black Stars are slated to play against Madagascar at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Wednesday, 1 June 2022, in their first match of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
The Black Stars will then play against the Central African Republic in their second match, in Angola.
The team will also play in a four-nation tournament against Chile, Tunisia and Japan, as part of preparations for Qatar 2022.
