Deputy Black Stars Captain Thomas Partey is committed to Ghana and would give his all to join the team in their bid to progress to the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers, says his Public Relations Officer Samuel Zigah.

The Arsenal midfielder is currently nursing a groin injury, which makes the possibility of him joining the Black Stars in the next two crucial qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa uncertain. 

In an interview with Class91.3FM, Zigah affirmed the Arsenal star’s dedication to helping his team in the qualifiers and most importantly seeing the Blackstars play in the next world cup at Qatar. 

“He always wants to give his best to the national team. Being at Qatar 2022 means a lot to him and his career as a footballer.”, Zigah said.

“He has never played in a FIFA world cup so if he would be part of getting Ghana to the world cup why not, he is all for it,” he remarked.

Zigah also urged Ghanaians not to panic as Partey’s injury is not very serious adding that the public would be addressed when Arsenal and the Ghana Football Association reach a mutual agreement on the next step in the coming days.

In Sunday’s Premier League clash against Watford, Partey did not feature in the game due to the injury he picked up at training.

Ghana currently sits a point behind group leaders, South Africa and will need a win in its next two games in order to progress to the next round of the qualifiers.

On November 11th and 14th, the Black Stars will battle it out with Ethiopia and South Africa at the Orlando Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast stadium respectively.  

Although the Black Stars team is graced with a lot of midfield prospects in the likes of Baba Iddrisu, Mubarak Wakaso, Mohammed Kudus among others, the absence of the vice-captain, Partey is one that no one would wish for.

Partey scored in Ghana’s last two World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe last month.
