UDS team returns home after historic FISU World University Games victory
The University for Development Studies (UDS) football team received a hero’s welcome on Sunday, October 5, 2025, as they arrived at the Kotoka International Airport following their historic triumph at the 2025 FISU World University Games.
Cheering fans, students, relatives, and government officials gathered at the airport to celebrate the team’s remarkable achievement — a moment that has brought immense pride to Ghana and the African continent.
Preparations are currently underway for an official state reception to honour the players and technical staff for their outstanding performance on the global stage.
The team is expected to present the prestigious trophy to the President of the Republic at the Presidency on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
UDS made history by defeating defending champions Paulista University of Brazil 2–1 in extra time to claim the 2025 FISU World University Football Cup — becoming the first African university to ever win the title.
The victory has sparked nationwide celebrations and has been widely hailed as a major milestone for Ghanaian sports and youth development.
Sports analysts and education leaders have described UDS’s success as proof of Ghana’s growing ability to nurture world-class talent through a blend of academic excellence and athletic discipline.
As the celebrations continue, the triumph stands as a shining example of how determination, teamwork, and national pride can propel Ghana to new heights on the world stage.
