Nana Acheampong, Kojo Antwi, and Amakye Dede mourn 'brother and legend' Daddy Lumba

Three of Ghana’s most respected Highlife legends have eulogised Daddy Lumba upon his recent passing.
On social media, Nana Acheampong, Amakye Dede, and Kojo Antwi emphasised their love for the deceased Highlife icon, underlined his impact on music and culture, and prayed for peace for his soul.
“Today, I’ve lost a brother and a true legend. Daddy Lumba was more than a musician – he was family. His music will live on, but his absence will be deeply felt. Rest in peace, Charles. You’ll always be in our hearts,” Amakye Dede said, ending with: “Wo nko yie, Onua [Farewell, brother]. Yebekae wo daa [We’ll always remember you].”
“Fare thee well my dear brother, Daddy Lumba. In times of loss and pain, may we all lend a shoulder for the bereaved to lean on. It is with deep sadness and heartbreak that I led my family and a few good friends to visit and console the wife and family of the late DADDY LUMBA, African Music Legend, and prolific hit-maker of Ghanaian heritage. Heartfelt condolences to all the family, friends, music, culture and tourism fraternity, and fans worldwide,” Kojo Antwi noted, and prayed: “May your soul rest in peace, Daddy Lumba.”
“It has been difficult for me to accept this sad news. Menua [my brother] Kojo Fosu, why this shock? Hmmmm, you have indeed done what the creator brought you on earth to do; you will forever inspire generations. My family and I are in pain,” Nana Acheampong mourned, praying: “To the family of my beloved brother, may God hold you tight in this moment. Rest in glory, my brother and a legend.”
Nana Acheampong was half of the legendary Lumba Brothers duo. In 2023, Daddy Lumbas revealed at an event at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), that it was Acheampong who had made him the star he was.
"The reason I am standing here today is, when I first went to Germany, I was only singing Gospel music. The one who introduced me into the Highlife music tradition is the one standing by me right here, Nana Acheampong," he explained.
He touched Nana Acheampong as he asked the audience to applaud him. They responded in wild cheers.
