Power outages, erratic water supply and road safety concerns remain major consumer issues – CUTS
Frequent power outages, unreliable water supply and persistent road safety concerns remain among the biggest challenges facing Ghanaian consumers, according to a new report by CUTS International Accra.
The report, The State of the Ghanaian Consumer 2025, said that despite gains in electricity generation and an 88.5% national electrification rate, consumers continue to experience frequent power interruptions due largely to transmission and distribution challenges.
It noted that while outage durations have generally remained within regulatory limits, reliability benchmarks have not been consistently met across operational areas.
The report also highlighted growing dissatisfaction with water services, with many consumers complaining about prolonged supply disruptions, inadequate notice before maintenance works and being billed despite not receiving regular water supply.
It further raised concerns about slow responses to customer complaints and low public satisfaction with the quality of service provided.
On road transport, the report said consumers continue to demand stronger safety measures amid rising road crashes.
It noted that protecting users of road transport requires effective regulation, improved road infrastructure and stricter enforcement of road safety rules to reduce accidents and improve public safety.
