In a press conference earlier today, October 3, 2025, in Parliament, the Majority Caucus of the Committee on Communication and Information, led by MP for Tain, Adama Sulemana, strongly defended the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology & Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, amid calls for his resignation by the Minority.

The Majority dismissed allegations of irregularities regarding the minister’s engagement with MultiChoice and criticised the Minority for what they described as populist rhetoric.

The Majority emphasised that the Minister had acted within his mandates, citing his efforts to stabilise the telecom sector and address previous legacy issues.

They highlighted the minister’s recent initiatives, including reducing data and voice service costs, advocating for fair pricing, and securing consumer benefits such as the recent DStv price reductions.

They described these actions as patriotic leadership aimed at protecting Ghanaian consumers.

The caucus also refuted claims that the minister acted unilaterally, pointing out that all stakeholder meetings involved multiple officials from the ministry, regulatory agencies, and MultiChoice.

They stressed that the decision-making process was transparent and consultative.

Furthermore, the Majority pointed to the significant reforms led by MP Sam George, including the recovery of broadcast frequencies, digital infrastructure development, and efforts to curb wasteful contracts — highlighting tangible progress in the sector over just eight months.

The caucus urged Ghanaians to disregard the Minority’s call for resignation, comparing it to past political figures who faced similar situations but remained in office.

They called for unity and support for the minister’s ongoing efforts to improve Ghana’s communication landscape.

The Majority reaffirmed their confidence in the minister’s leadership and urged the public to focus on the sector’s positive strides rather than populist criticisms.
