President John Dramani Mahama has extended a message of support to the Black Stars ahead of Ghana’s opening match against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Toronto, Canada.

In a statement issued on behalf of the government and people of Ghana on June 17, the President said the entire nation stands behind the team as it begins its World Cup campaign.

He described Ghana’s fifth appearance at the World Cup as a reflection of the country's resilience and urged the players to represent the nation with pride.

President Mahama also called on members of the Ghanaian community in Toronto and across North America to support the team during the tournament.

The President noted that government had secured official television broadcast rights for the World Cup to ensure that Ghanaians across the country can follow the matches.

He encouraged the players to give their best on the global stage and expressed confidence in the team's ability to make the nation proud.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President.
