Richard Afoakwa rejects Hearts of Oak offer, extends stay at Accra Lions
Accra Lions head coach Richard Afoakwa has rejected an offer from Hearts of Oak and signed a new contract with the Division One League club.
Afoakwa said his decision was influenced by his belief in the club's long-term vision and desire to continue the work already underway.
"It is for the sake of continuity and belief in the project here at Accra Lions," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
"I have no doubt this is the best place for me to develop and grow."
Hearts of Oak had approached Afoakwa as part of efforts to strengthen their technical and youth development structures ahead of the new season.
The club reportedly offered him a dual role as assistant coach of the senior team and head coach of the youth side.
His decision to remain at Accra Lions is expected to strengthen the club's plans for the coming campaign, with management maintaining confidence in his leadership.
Afoakwa joined Accra Lions in August 2025 as assistant coach under James Francis after leaving Inter Allies FC.
He was appointed head coach in January 2026 following the dismissal of Francis.
A graduate of the University of Cape Coast with a degree in Psychology and Education, Afoakwa has previously worked with WAFA and Nsoatreman FC.
