The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has applauded Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party's presidential aspirant for the proposed implementation of a flat rate tax on the importation of spare parts into the country.

The visionary initiative is seen by the Association as a crucial step towards safeguarding the interests of spare parts dealerships nationwide.

The Association applauded Dr Bawumia's proposal in a statement signed by its Head of Communications dated February 11, 2024.

As a non-political organisation with a dedicated focus on the development and enhancement of the spare parts dealership industry we view this as a step in the right direction, the statement said.

The Association expressed its wholehearted acceptance and support for Dr Bawumia's proposal. 

"The industry eagerly awaits the timely implementation of this policy, with its success contingent upon the New Patriotic Party's ability to break the eight-year political jinx come December 7, 2024," the statement noted.

"The announcement made during a forum on Wednesday, 7th February 2024, in Accra, where the Vice President, also the flagbearer of the NPP, conveyed the party's commitment to introducing a flat rate tax on spare parts imports is welcomed.

"The Association has pledged its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure the seamless implementation of this anticipated tax structure.

"The proposed flat rate tax is poised to bring significant relief to spare parts dealers by reducing costs, providing a welcomed reprieve to commercial drivers who often factor these expenses into transport fares. This move is anticipated to alleviate additional burdens on the commuting public, contributing to a more sustainable and affordable transportation system.

"The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association is urging all its members to rally behind the introduction of the flat rate tax on spare parts imports. 

"We are united in support of this initiative. The Association believes it can collectively contribute to the growth and prosperity of the spare parts dealership industry, fostering positive developments in the broader economic landscape," the statement stressed.

It also said: "The Association extends its gratitude to Dr Mahamadu Bawumia for his foresight and commitment to the welfare of the spare parts sector. Members of the Association look forward to witnessing the positive impact of this policy on their industry and the nation as a whole."
