COVID 19: No fee for electronic payments via GhIPSS platform
Beginning tomorrow 24 March, 2020, any electronic payments done via the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS) platform will not be charged any fee.
This comes in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
An agreement has already been reached between GhIPSS, all banks, Fintechs and mobile money operators.
The waiver is regardless of the volume and value of transactions. This will continue until further notice.
In a statement, GhIPSS said the transactions that will be affected include Mobile Money Interoperability, GhIPSS Instant Pay and Automated Clearing House- Direct Credit.
According to GhIPSS, it was optimistic the fee waiver will contribute to efforts by its partners to promote and encourage the use of digital payment options to limit the possible spread of the COVID-19 Virus through physical cash.
It is therefore urging all partner banks, Fintechs and Mobile Money Service Providers to make these services available to customers on their various digital and mobile payment platforms.
It appealed to the general public to turn to these and other electronic payment options and avoid the use of physical cash as much as practicable.
It added that “The GhQR & Proxy Pay service which will be launched on the 25th of March will also provide additional channels for the public to transact electronically.
“The company takes this opportunity to reiterate the call on the public to observe personal hygiene and social distancing in order to curb the spread of the novel corona virus.”
