DVLA warns public against licensing by private garages

The newly appointed Ashanti Regional Manager of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Jerry Edem Aflabo, has issued a strong warning to the public against patronising private garages that claim to offer licensing-related services.
Speaking to the media on his first day in office, Mr. Aflabo emphasised that only the DVLA is legally mandated to issue or renew driver’s licenses.
He said reports of some private garages, also known as private vehicle test stations, claiming to conduct such services are false and misleading.
“These private garages have no authority to carry out licensing functions.
Their role is strictly limited to conducting vehicle inspections as part of the process for new vehicle registrations and preparing reports for roadworthiness certification,” he clarified.
Mr. Aflabo further warned that the DVLA will not hesitate to take firm action against any facility found operating outside the scope of its approved functions.
This includes the potential closure of such facilities and legal action against their operators.
He reassured the public of the DVLA’s dedication to delivering efficient and customer-friendly services, adding that his leadership will prioritise improvements in service delivery and client satisfaction.
