Deputy Transport Minister commends MPS for innovation and support for 24-hour economy

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has paid a working visit to Meridian Port Services (MPS) to familiarise herself with the company's operations and assess its contribution to Ghana's transport and logistics sector.

The visit formed part of efforts by the Ministry of Transport to engage key industry stakeholders and gain first-hand insight into operations at the country's ports.

During the tour, the Deputy Minister commended MPS for its adoption of advanced technologies aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery at the Port of Tema.

She particularly praised the company's use of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, electric vehicles, and other modern systems that have enhanced cargo handling and terminal operations.

Hon. Affo-Toffey also lauded MPS for its commitment to supporting the Government's 24-hour economy agenda, noting that efficient port operations are critical to facilitating trade, improving productivity, and boosting economic growth.

As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister toured the company's control centre, where she interacted with personnel responsible for monitoring and coordinating terminal activities.

She expressed appreciation to the staff for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of port services.

The Deputy Minister noted that the role played by operational teams is vital to maintaining the efficiency and competitiveness of Ghana's ports within the sub-region.

The visit highlighted the importance of technology-driven solutions in modernising Ghana's maritime and logistics sector and improving the country's position as a regional trade hub.

MPS officials briefed the Deputy Minister on the company's operational systems and ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
