GA/R:Green Africa Youth Organization donates compost to farmers

The Green Africa Youth Organisation (GAYO), a Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to sustainability, has donated 150 bags of compost to two farming communities under the La Dade-Kotopon Recreation Department.
The initiative forms part of the organisation’s campaign to promote eco-friendly waste management and encourage farmers to embrace organic farming practices.
According to the project coordinator, Ms. Mabel Naa Amorkor Laryea, the compost was produced from organic waste sourced from households, markets, and hotels.
The waste was processed at a material recovery facility and converted into nutrient-rich compost designed to improve soil fertility and boost agricultural productivity.
Ms. Laryea stressed that the initiative not only supports sustainable farming but also contributes to climate action.
“Organic composting reduces greenhouse gas emissions, enhances soil health, and minimises the harmful effects of chemical fertilisers, which have been linked to human health issues such as kidney failure and heart disease,” she explained.
She further urged the public to rethink their perception of waste, treating it as a valuable resource rather than a burden.
“We must find creative and innovative ways to transform waste into useful products. Composting is one powerful example of that,” she added.
The donation of the 150 compost bags, GAYO noted, is part of its broader mission to reduce reliance on chemical fertilisers, promote sustainable agriculture, and build resilient farming communities
