GRIDCo management, staff hold emergency meeting 3pm
The management of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and its striking staff will hold an emergency meeting at 3 pm today, Wednesday, 11 December 2019 in an attempt to stop the ongoing sit-down strike by the staff.
The angry workers who have issued a warning about the precarious financial state of the company, are hoisting red flags at all GRIDCo offices across the country as well as wearing red arm bands to drive home their demands.
According to the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr Raphael Korno, until their demands in the petition are met, they will not call off the strike.
The two major demands in the petition are for the payment of the GHS250 million indebtedness of ECG to GRIDCo which the President directed the Finance Minister to pay, as well as the GHS94 million Power Distribution Service Limited debt which the Electricity Company of Ghana collected after the PDS contract was suspended.
The other debts they are demanding are the $32, 576,974.05 owed them by VALCO as of 30 September 2019, the GHS607 million owed by ECG as of 1 March 2019, and the GHS177 million owed by NEDCo as of 30 September 2019.
