Ghana Gold Board cracks down on unlicensed jewellery manufacturers
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has issued a stern warning to jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries operating without a valid licence.
In a compliance notice dated January 28, 2026, the GoldBod stated that it has come to its attention that some entities are engaging in these activities without the necessary authorisation.
The notice serves as a reminder to the general public that only duly licensed persons are authorised to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, gold fabrication, and gold refining businesses in Ghana.
The GoldBod emphasised that operating without a valid licence constitutes an offence and is punishable under Act 1140.
In October 2025, the GoldBod issued a press statement requiring all existing jewellery manufacturers, fabricators, and gold refineries to regularise their operations by December 31, 2025.
As a result, a team of GoldBod inspectors will be deployed from February 2, 2026, to ensure that only licensed individuals are operating in these industries.
The GoldBod congratulated two jewellery manufacturing entities that have successfully obtained a GoldBod jewellery and fabrication licence: Sourcechain Enterprise and Shepaj Limited Company.
