Government settles US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule
The Government of Ghana has settled a US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule, the Ministry of Finance has announced.
In a press release dated Monday, 6 July 2026, the ministry said the payment was completed on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
According to the ministry, the settlement comprised US$525.2 million in principal repayments and US$174.8 million in interest payments.
It said the latest payment brings the total amount paid to Eurobond holders since January 2025 to US$2.1 billion, in line with the terms of the Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme.
The ministry stated that the payment was made through the government's planned financing arrangements without placing undue pressure on the country's foreign exchange reserves.
It added that the settlement reduces Ghana's outstanding Eurobond debt, strengthens investor confidence and demonstrates the government's commitment to prudent debt management and macroeconomic stability.
The ministry said it will continue to implement sound public financial management practices to ensure the timely servicing of Ghana's debt obligations.
It also expressed appreciation to the people of Ghana for their continued patience, support and confidence.
