Ghana has secured a significant boost in its economic recovery efforts as the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the country’s fourth review under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

The approval paves the way for the immediate disbursement of $370 million to support Ghana’s ongoing fiscal and structural reforms.

The decision by the IMF Board is a strong endorsement of the government's commitment to fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability, and strategic policy reforms aimed at transforming the national economy.

In a statement celebrating the development, Minister for Finance, Dr Casiel Ato Forson, highlighted the achievement as a “decisive step forward” in Ghana’s recovery journey, adding that it reflects growing international confidence in the country’s reform agenda.

“This landmark approval validates Ghana’s unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline and strategic economic transformation. Our comprehensive macroeconomic policies and carefully crafted structural reforms are delivering real results that the international community recognises and supports,” the statement read.

The latest disbursement brings Ghana closer to achieving its long-term economic goals under the $3 billion ECF programme, which was launched to help restore debt sustainability, improve public finance management, and foster inclusive growth.

The Minister says the continued success of the programme is not only stabilising the economy but also laying the foundation for a resilient and self-sustaining future.
