Jolly Homes debunks waterway encroachment claims amid Amrahia Dam redevelopment

Emmanuel Osei Amankra speaks to the media

The Operations Manager for Jolly Homes Estate, Emmanuel Osei Amankra, has dismissed claims that the estate is being developed within waterways, as reported in sections of the media.

He emphasised that the project is not situated within any water channels and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders in the redevelopment of the Amrahia Dam.

The clarification comes as the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority, in partnership with a private developer, announces plans to transform the dam into a multi-purpose agricultural and recreational hub.

The initiative is expected to boost irrigation, aquaculture, and eco-friendly recreational activities, while safeguarding the dam from increasing encroachment.

The dam, which receives water from the Aburi Mountains, remains a critical resource for vegetable farmers and surrounding communities.

Following a site tour, GIDA’s Deputy Director for Stream Oversight, Joseph Nartey, said the project will preserve the dam while expanding its functionality to support sustainable livelihoods.

He also warned that structures within the designated buffer zone risk demolition, stressing that developers encroaching on protected areas will be required to halt construction or vacate.

Mr Nartey further dismissed reports suggesting that Jolly Homes Estate had been constructed within the dam, describing such claims as inaccurate.
