Mid-year Budget Review: Fin. Min. makes presentation today with majority, minority divided over state of economy

The Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, is scheduled to present the Mid-year Budget Review tomorrow, Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Parliament.
The event is highly anticipated by members across the political spectrum, with the majority and minority factions of the House actively voicing their expectations and perspectives.
The majority members, predominantly from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), have expressed optimism about the prospects of the economy. They underscored the government’s achievements, including the stabilisation of the cedi, as key indicators of economic resilience and progress thus far. Their outlook was imbued with confidence as they emphasised President John Mahama’s government's efforts to sustain macroeconomic stability and foster growth.
Conversely, minority members had a more critical stance, expressing skepticism about the government's performance. They contend that, despite the passage of time, tangible progress remained elusive, particularly in the realm of public spending and fiscal management. They argued that the government's expenditure had not met expectations, and as a result, they remained unconvinced about the claimed recovery and stability.
This divergence in perspectives underscores the deep political divide and the ongoing debate over the country's economic trajectory.
