Parliament approves Health Ministry’s GH¢S 2.8bn budget, highest allocation so far
Parliament has entered day three of its ongoing exercise to approve the 2026 ministerial budgets, with significant allocations confirmed across multiple sectors.
Topping the list, the Ministry of Health has so far secured the highest allocation, receiving GHS22.8 billion to support hospital infrastructure, expand healthcare services and bolster nationwide public health initiatives.
The approval reflects the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring equitable access to quality medical care.
Several other ministries also received approval for their 2026 expenditure plans. These include:
Ministry of Works, Housing, and Water Resources — GHS1.46 billion
Ministry of Transport — GHS1.5 billion
Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs — GHS4.79 billion
Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection — GHS3.26 billion
Fisheries and Aquaculture Development — GHS428 million
Parliament also approved funding to bolster justice delivery and anti-corruption efforts.
The Legal Aid Commission received GHS47.5 million, while the Office of the Special Prosecutor was allocated GHS159 million to intensify corruption investigations and prosecutions.
Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs secured GHS1.7 billion to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic engagements and international representation.
The budget approval process continues, with more ministries expected to appear before Parliament in the coming days.
