Shafic Suleman appointed Acting Executive Secretary of PURC

Dr. Suleman, a Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Oil and Gas Studies at the University of Cape Coast, brings a wealth of experience in energy and sustainability, petroleum economics, energy policy and law, climate change, and energy finance and risk management.
His academic and professional background positions him to lead the Commission in achieving its strategic objectives.
He holds a PhD. in Energy and Sustainability from De Montfort University in Leicester, UK, and is a certified Energy Risk Professional (ERP) from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP-USA).
Additionally, he has an MSc in Energy Management from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, UK, a BA in Geography from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Cape Coast.
The PURC, responsible for regulating Ghana’s electricity, water, and natural gas sectors, has expressed confidence in Dr. Suleman’s ability to steer the Commission toward efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.
His expertise in energy policy, climate change, and risk management is expected to play a key role in enhancing consumer protection and ensuring fair regulation for utility service providers and stakeholders.
In a statement, the Commission reiterated its commitment to supporting Dr. Suleman in realizing the President’s vision for Ghana’s utility sector, emphasizing the need for an inclusive and transformative leadership approach.
