The Vehicle and Asset Union of Ghana (VADUG) has commended the government for its efforts to eliminate nuisance taxes that have long burdened their operations.

Speaking on the matter, VADUG Chairman, Bernard Ntrakwah, acknowledged that while the union’s expectations were not fully met, the progress made so far is encouraging and suggests that their concerns will be addressed in due course.

Ntrekwah recalled President John Dramani Mahama’s pre-election pledge to review and remove nuisance taxes at the Port, which had been driving up the cost of importing vehicles.

He urged the government to honour this commitment, particularly following discussions on import duties during their last meeting.

Additionally, he highlighted the negative impact of the Cedi’s depreciation on their businesses, stressing the urgent need for government intervention to stabilize the currency and ease financial pressures on importers.

The union remains hopeful that ongoing reforms will provide relief to industry players and create a more favourable business environment for vehicle importers across the country.
