Basketmouth, wife divorce after 12 years of marriage

Nigerian comic star Basketmouth has announced an end to his marriage with Elsie Uzoma Okpocha.
On Thursday, December 22, 2022, Basketmouth, much to the surprise of his 8.5 million fans, broke the news on his verified Instagram timeline.
“[In]asmuch as it pains me to bring my personal life to the public space, this is an unavoidable situation," he started.
“After much deliberations, my wife and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage," he announced.
He brought up his children Janelle and Jason.
“As we move forward separately, we will continue to work together to give our beautiful children all the care, love, guidance and support they need." the multiple award-winning comic noted.
Basketmouth also "humbly" requested: “You respect our privacy as we navigate through these times."
"Thank you,” he concluded.
It would appear Basketmouth disabled the comment section on the post.
In September, when Basketmouth turned 44, his wife celebrated him on social media calling him "The love of my beautiful life… My best friend, my ride or die, my joy and happiness," and promising "I love you till eternity."
Usually, in November, Basketmouth would celebrate the union's anniversary but this year, he made no such public observation.
The comedian, born Bright Okpocha and Elsie have known each other for 19 years but have been married for 12 years.
Having met at the University of Lagos, the two got married in 2010 after a reported seven years of dating.
