The Ghana Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has officially launched its Fleet Pool Management Services (FPMS), a bold new initiative aimed at revolutionising transportation services within the tourism sector and enhancing the overall visitor experience in Ghana.

Held in Accra, the launch event drew a wide range of stakeholders, industry players, and media representatives.

Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts,  Abla Dzifa Gomashie, delivered the keynote address, underscoring the strategic importance of the FPMS to Ghana’s tourism agenda.

In her remarks, Miss Gomashie described the initiative as a critical step in modernising the tourism experience through efficient, safe, and reliable transport.

She praised GTDC for its resilience and innovative approach, noting that the Corporation had surmounted significant operational hurdles to bring the project to fruition.

“This initiative reflects the broader vision of President John Dramani Mahama to grow tourism as a driver of economic transformation,” she stated.

“It will not only improve tourist mobility across our diverse attractions but also showcase Ghanaian hospitality and culture to the world.”

The FPMS provides a platform for private sector vehicle owners and car rental services to partner with GTDC in offering transport solutions to tourists.

The model enables GTDC to facilitate transport services without owning a fleet, while private companies gain access to business opportunities through GTDC’s national marketing and distribution channels.

Chief Executive Officer of GTDC, Prof Kobbie Mensah, explained that the FPMS is designed to be a mutually beneficial arrangement that brings innovation and flexibility to the industry.

“So far, we have registered 12 private companies under the scheme, and we are confident that this number will grow significantly.

The FPMS will ensure tourists have a wide variety of transportation options that are safe, secure, and dependable,” he said.

He added that the FPMS aligns with GTDC’s broader strategy to reposition Ghana’s tourism sector by focusing on partnerships, technology, and service excellence.

The initiative is also expected to stimulate private sector growth, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to Ghana’s economic development.

Stakeholders are optimistic that the FPMS will enhance the country's appeal as a premier tourism destination in West Africa.
