There is a new Guinness World Record (GWR) holder for the longest cooking time by an individual.

Only five months ago, Nigeria's 27-year-old Hilda Baci, born Hilda Effiong Bassey, clinched the record, cooking continously for 93 hours 11 minutes. Her historical feat was announced on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Now, the title has gone to an Irish cook, Alan Fisher, who owns a restaurant in Japan called Kyojin Stewhouse.

Fisher set the record cooking a staggering 119 hours and 57 minutes, clinching the longest cooking marathon (individual) title. The GWR website explained: "That is more than 24 hours longer than the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci."

Apart from that, he now also holds the longest baking marathon (individual) title, with a performance time of 47 hours and 21 minutes. According to the GWR, "The previous record holder was Wendy Sandner (USA) with a time of 31 hours 16 minutes."

He achieved both feats consecutively, spending over 160 hours in the kitchen. He had just over a day of rest in between the two challenges, however.

Alan told the GWR: "Records are made to be broken but for today at least, I can hold both simultaneously. So many sleepless nights, early mornings, anxieties and financial stress to keep the business alive. Just head down and persevere. Breaking these records is a fitting way to share our story and create a little awareness about the Irish connection here in Matsue."

He first learned about Hilda's record in May.
