Global Citizen Festival: Usher, H.E.R., Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Gyakie to headline in Accra
For its 10th anniversary, Global Citizen is scheduled to bring its annual festival to Ghana.
This marks the first time the Global Citizen Festival will be coming to the West African country.
The Global Citizen Festival will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in the capital city of Ghana, Accra with performances from various international acts including legendary R&B performer Usher Raymond IV, sultry R&B voice SZA (pronounced Siza), multi-instrumentalist and R&B singer H.E.R., Afrobeats sensation Tems, and British-Ghanaian rap superstar Stormzy.
Local stars welcoming the above as headline mates are rap megastar Sarkodie, dancehall titan Stonebwoy, and Afropop darling Gyakie.
While these entertain music fans at the Black Star Square in Accra, Ghana, an incredible lineup will be on stage at Central Park in New York City, USA, as a twin event.
In view of this, president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reacted, “Ghana is honoured to host this year’s edition of the Global Citizen Festival. I look forward to welcoming each and every one of you to Accra, capital of the country at the centre of the world.”
He referenced the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to end extreme poverty and its systemic causes, “Together, let us join hands and help accelerate progress towards the realisation of the SDGs.”
“We owe it to the next generation to live in a world free from poverty, disease, and the degradation of the environment,” he indicated.
The Global Citizen Festival is part of a movement seeking to eradicate poverty. Fans are rewarded with free tickets to attend by contributing to charity acts on the website, including watching videos and signing petitions.
About 60,000 people attend the Global Citizens festival annually.
The festival’s debut in Ghana happens on Saturday, 24 September 2022.
