Ghana's Highlife/Afrobeats superstar KiDi has teased a new song that simultaneously celebrates resilience and shames the culture of recognising people only when they are dead.

An Afrobeats song performed in Pidgin English reminiscent of the Nigerian variant, it suggests the Lynx/EMPIRE Africa music act has come to a place of deep reflection having endured, or in fact enduring, physical and emotional pain.

According to a snippet shared with a video attached, the advertised release date for the piece is Thursday, April 27, 2023.

In the video tweeted today, Thursday, April 20, the defending Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year was captured pensively singing and lighting candles in a poorly lit place.

For a caption, he quoted the opening line for the song: "If I tell you say I'm okay I lied [sad emoji]."

The title of the song was not revealed.

Check out the lyrics below:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"If I tell you say I'm okay I lied

Everything I feel in my heart and soul

Oh as you see me so

I'm smiling

But I'm dead inside

Look into my eyes see the pain inside

I don't wanna chill I wanna stay inside

If I show you my liver

You go take me to prayer

Don't wait till I'm under – 6 feet I'm gone

And dem go tell you he was strong o

Dem go sing my songs o

Make nobody call my phone

I've always been on my own o..."

Meanwhile, on January 9, the amply decorated singer-songwriter and record producer Dennis Nana Dwamena, alias KiDi, shared the flyer for his Golden Boy North American Tour 2023, only to announce the cancellation of the tour on February 24.

"I've had to make this decision to postpone the tour due to health issues and I want you to know that this decision was not made lightly," he explained.

Thursday night, March 16, Twitter was awash with rumours that the 'Touch It' hitmaker's health had deteriorated into a stroke.

KiDi said nothing on social media.

His Lynx Entertainment boss Richie Mensah, however, stated categorically that: "KiDi hasn't had a stroke."

Friday, April 14, the 'Blessed' hitmaker declared that he is gladly "back to doing what I love most; creating music and performing."

He maintained that "cancelling my tour" was a "painful decision" yet necessary "to take care of my health."

He also clarified that his silence especially on social media was part of the care routine.

The award-winning singer-songwriter and record producer revealed that concern was shown not only by "family, friends," and "fans" but also by "the brands I work with."

He admonished the rumour-mongers as "bad actors" who "spread false stories" about him.

While the University of Ghana, Legon, graduate did not disclose what exactly was wrong with him health-wise, in the Instagram (IG) statement, he "categorically" said "those stories" spread about his health "were false."

In a short video accompanying the statement, the musician was seen on a platform bordering a lake, in a picturesque haven, sipping tea from a cup.
