Former President John Dramani Mahama has welcomed into his family his first grandchild. 

The beloved stateman shared the good news on Facebook.

Called Alyazia, the child belongs to John Mahama's first son Shafik and his wife. 

"Congratulations Shafik and Asma," Mr Mahama wrote, Monday, January 16, 2023.

He added: "Welcome granddaughter Alyazia Frema Mahama."

Beneath those warm words, he placed a reel which begins with him cradling baby Alyazia gently on a pillow in his lap. In another scene, he is with his wife Madam Lordina as they both attend to their grandchild. In the closing scene, Grandmother Lordina is alone with the baby Alyazia as she pats the little one's back to soothe her.

While the adorable moments roll, emotional orchestral music plays boldly in the 1 minute and 17 second video.

Alyazia Frema Mahama was born on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 – it's the same date on which her Grandfather was born in 1958.

Baby Alyazia Frema's birth was announced by her Algerian mother Asma on Instagram, Thursday, December 8, 2022.

She comes as Shafik and Asma's first child two and half years after their wedding.
