Kentos cheers Black Stars in new song ‘Osey’

The Ghanaian 15-member brass band, Kentos

Ghanaian band Kentos, has released a song for the Black Stars called ‘Osey’.

Composed, written, and produced by the 15-member brass band, ‘Osey’ is to cheer on the Ghanaian national team, Black Stars, and rally support for them as they take off to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup in November.

Formed in 2021, the Accra-based Kentos’ sound can be summed up as a delightful blend of Electronic Dance Music (EDM), Afro House, Traditional Swing, Afrobeats and Highlife.

Lyrically, ‘Osey’, which spans 3 minutes and 46 seconds proclaims the presence of the Black Stars and eggs them on to lift the Qatar 2022 Cup:

“Arise! Go Ghana Black Stars. We are here… And we are shouting, ‘Osey yie!’ Let’s bring the trophy home. Score the goal. Shoot! We gonna bring the trophy home.”

Sonically, the uptempo record flows in the musical fashion known in Ghana as ‘Jama’ or ‘Gyama’, which is typically a morale song or, usually, a medley to cheer and uplift one towards an achievement.

The brainchild of Nikola Jeremic (Band & Creative Director) and Ekow Joe (Music Director & lead Saxophone), Kentos’ ‘Osey’ employs traditional drums, bass, claps, wind instruments and others underneath the spirited singing of band members.

For Qatar 2022, Ghana Black Stars are in Group H together with Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.
