Noble Nketia reveals disturbing inspiration behind 'Mofra Yi' hit

Singer Noble Nketia has revealed the disturbing story that inspired him to create his Mofra Yi hit.
The song, released in , advocates the proper care and nurturing for children.
"I was driving behind a woman in slow traffic. When a 13-year-old boy approached the woman's car. She took the 500 cedi coin from those times [past], which would be 5 pesewas today or so, and attempted to give it to the boy. She failed to do so because the traffic moved, and she had to move as well. When she stopped again, a younger boy, 10-years-old, approached her. He thought his older brother had been given money so he also wanted some. The woman handed the money to him. The older one had been chasing the woman, and thought his money had been given to the younger. He began to harass the younger one for the what he said was his money, and so a tassle began. Suddenly, the 13-year-old took a sharp wooden stick and stabbed the younger one," Noble narrated.
"I was stunned so I applied the brakes at once. Some taxi drivers came around and helped to lift the boy so we could take him to Okomfo Anokye [Teaching Hospital]. Unfortunately, why he stabbed the brother was very bad. So he died on the way to hospital."
Due to scene, the songwriter said he "felt it was a great issue to deny children, especially those on the street, the love they deserve".
"Every child is precious and there's something in them that will one day be resourceful to this nation," he emphasised, reciting some of the lyrics from Mofra Yi.
He said the tragic incident happened while he drove in "my brand new car, Fiat Tempra," from Kejetia to Okomfo Anokye, Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
Speaking to Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the Gospel star pressed his point by singing the 2004 hit acappella.
"When we asked around, we found that a lot of the children at this place were not to blame for being there. The mother of the one who died was not around. For others, their mother pushed them there. Some come from far and are told they would get money from this place," Noble lamented.
"The dangerous part of it all is that it is these same children who become armed robbers and prostitutes."
He remembered some of the children proudly speaking about older ones who had made money from sex work and armed robbery, from which they drew inspiration for financial freedom.
"It's very scary. The things they see, learn and adapt to is what they grow up with," he stressed.
Noble Nketia said recognising he could not remedy this problem all by himself did not deter him to give it a try, as he adopted some street children, "brought them home, raised them the right way so they grow as all children should".
He added as part of his efforts, he "dedicated about 50 per cent of the proceeds" from the My Vision album to this cause.
"God being good, three of the children have graduated university, 17 of them are in secondary school. Some are still at the home and we are praying for divine strength so we can keep helping them and securing their future," he noted.
The singer underlined street children disturbingly have the notion "that every rich person is wicked, and that's how they make money".
"The greatest harm we can do children is not to hurt them in any way but to deny them the love they deserve," he cautioned.
Inviting others to collaborate with him on taking care of neglected children, he noted, "Those days it was said 32 per cent of children born in Ghana were on the street. I cannot say for now."
