Gospel singer Obaapa Christy has made it clear that she did not feature Sarkodie on her latest song, Odeneho, to tap into the heavyweight rapper’s wide fanbase.

Guesting on the Journey to Heaven drive-time show on No.1 FM, 105.3, she was asked by host Taller Dee why she did not collaborate with any of the Urban Gospel stars like Koby Salm, Scot Evans, and Preachers, among others, but chose Sarkodie.

“My intention with this collaboration was not to tap into anyone’s fanbase. My sole and heartfelt intention was to do a song with my brother. There was no ulterior motive,” she said.

Obaapa Christy contentedly recalled the honourable mentions “King Sark” gave her in his music “when he was coming up,” even calling her auntie.

“He’s a brother. So it is a privilege [to work with him],” she stressed.

The singer asserted it was not required for a Gospel singer to only work with musicians of that particular genre.

She said the controversy over her working with Sarkodie was coming from a lack of understanding.

“It is what they disregard that God wants, and what they question,” she doubled down.

She emphasised that even though Sarkodie was known for “Hiplife and secular” music, he was indeed “God’s child, created by God, and he knows God, he believes in God, and is indwelled by God”.

Obaapa Christy said the rap legend was “walking the path chosen for him by God”.

She strongly posited no one but the Creator could rightly judge individuals, appealing to Gospel fans not to dismiss her collaborator over his staple genre.

The W'agye Me (He's Saved Me) hitmaker said her thoughts, upon which Odeneho was based, were best captured in the redemption of Zacchaeus, the notorious tax collector, as captured in Luke 19.
