Ghanaian Afropop star KiDi has released the official music video for his new song called ‘Champagne’ and in it, he appears to tackle stereotyping.

The 4 minutes and 20 seconds video shot by The Creative Inc., enlists celebrated actors Nana Ama McBrown and Adjetey Anang.

In the opening scene, a family is driving to an event held in honour of the head of the household, a character who is later introduced at the said event as “a man who’s led by example, an accomplished academic, and a leader.” He is played by Adjetey.

Nana Ama plays mother and their two children can be seen in the backseat of their sedan as they wait at a traffic light.

While there, a group of bikers led by a character with dyed hair, played by KiDi, come to join them wait for the greenlight.

The family man, at the wheel and donning his tuxedo, spots them and comments in disgust to his wife, “Look at them, all thieves and prostitutes,” to which his wife at the front seat responds, “These are young kids dressed like thieves and prostitutes.”

When he asks, “But why?” she answers, “I don’t know why,” and adds, “Self-expression?”

In a stunning plot twist, after the MC at the event gives an elaborate introduction to highlight the man in tuxedo’s honourable person and achievements, a video is played intended to buttress her words and to throw more light on “some of his most memorable moments” but rather, lewd images of him in bed with sex workers, photos accounting for his activities of tax fraud, etc., are what show up.

In response, his son gapes in shock and his disappointed wife serves him a loud slap, drawing gasps from their daughter and the on-looking soiree attendants.

This is when the bikers, the orchestrators of the video mishap, again led by the young man with hair dyed blonde, take over the ruined event, transforming it into a music and dance show while binging on the champagne on the guest tables.

The point of the video, it would appear, is to highlight how hypocritical supposed upstanding members of society can be while they stereotype and look down on others from their high horses.

‘Champagne’ is the lead single for the award-winning Ghanaian singer-songwriter KiDi’s upcoming extended play (EP) titled ‘4Play’.
