Kojo Antwi has 'outgrown' Nat'l Theatre which is 'poorly maintained, creatively limiting'

Music legend Kojo Antwi has revealed why he stopped using the National Theatre for his beloved annual music concert.
According to the Dadie Anoma singer, the iconic venue in Accra is poorly maintained and has lost its glory.
He said, like water, overflowing a glass, he has "outgrown" the facility, intimating also it is creatively uninspiring.
Antwi recalled the fantastic and futuristic things he did in the National Theatre in both their heyday: "Coming from above, coming from beneath, coming from the sides, descending on the stage on a half moon, coming on stage on a white horse".
It was at the National Theatre that the celebrity singer-songwriter’s annual December 24 concert debuted, but it has gone out of favour with the musician whose fame has swelled beyond multiple generations.
"The place has fallen short of being a theatre, and maintaining it has become challenging for those responsible.
"And me, as an artist, I don't belong to a hall.
"I did many avant-garde things, but an artist doesn't belong to a hall.
"And I got to that point, I felt the place wasn't helping my growth," the 2010 BET nominee explained in an interview on Onua TV.
Since moving on from the National Theatre, Kojo Antwi, alias Mr Music Man, has taken his concert to the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City, the Accra Mall, and Labadi Beach Hotel.
For 2023’s edition, he hosted his patrons at University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Legon, Accra.
