'Mr Speaker' – The rising star on morning radio

Popularly known in media circles as ‘Mr Speaker’, Kwame Appiah Kubi, the host of Accra100.5FM’s morning show (Ghana Yensom) has fast become a behemoth in the radio industry and fast-rising and aiming for the very zenith of zeniths.
With a background in Business Administration, the prolific writer and public speaker, who has a great passion for entrepreneurship, has caused a seismic shift on Ghana’s morning radio landscape with his wealth of presentation and production skills gained through the years.
Mr Speaker started his radio career through several internship opportunities with media houses such Velvet Beam FM and GBC Sun Rise in Koforidua, capital of the Eastern Region.
He later became a host of both morning and sports shows at Adehyie FM in Sefwi Bibiani, as a cub journalist.
After graduating from All Nations University, Mr Speaker gained employment with Cine Plus TV, Accra.
While there, he served as Production Manager, Head of Business Development and a morning show host for a year-and-a-half and later moved back to his alma mater as a Public Relations Officer in charge of Public Affairs and University Advancement.
In February 2020, Kwame Appiah Kubi designed and successfully launched the Dwabrem morning show on CTV, a unit of the Class Media Group (CMG), as a personal initiative.
He hosted that programme until 4 January 2021.
Mr Speaker played a critical role as one of the lead anchors on Accra100.5FM and CTV as well as across CMG’s affiliate stations during the 2020 general elections.
He was subsequently made the new host and face of Ghana Yensom, a position he has occupied with diligence and demonstrated real talent coupled with amazing oratory and communication skills.
Mr Speaker’s research and knowledge skills as well as his understanding of national issues, have concretised his excellence on the show.
He drives the show with a great sense of humour, exceptional analyses and brings clarity to even the most difficult topics of the day to carry the listener along and make the show relevant to the ordinary Ghanaian.
These traits set him apart and make him stand out among the rest within the cluttered and highly competitive radio airwaves in the morning.
Kwame Appiah Kubi’s peers and guests conferred the moniker ‘Mr Speaker’ on him because of his courage and ability to speak truth to power and encapsulate the voice of the ordinary Ghanaian.
Kwame Appiah Kubi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Entrepreneurship option) from All Nations University in Koforidua, one of Ghana’s renowned private universities.
Due to his passion for leadership and willingness to serve, he has taken up several leadership roles and initiatives that add to his skill set and experience.
As such, Mr Speaker, together with his team of producers, has designed a public-interest dialogue series, as part of Accra100.5FM’s morning show, dubbed “Accra Dialogue”.
Right from junior high school, his zeal and passion for leadership earned him a school prefect role and rose to become an assistant head-boy at Cambridge High School in Kumasi.
If accolades are anything to go by, then Kwame Appiah Kubi (Mr Speaker) has got the requisite experience in both national and student politics.
At the tertiary level, he became the founder and president for the ANU Debate Society and External Affairs President of the SRC, just to mention a few.
Kwame Appiah Kubi is a team player and has chaired several working committees at the Private University’s Students Association of Ghana and the workplace.
As a host, he has attended several conferences and workshops, which adds to his knowledge set. He drives one of the country’s most competitive morning shows with dedication, professionalism, excellence and integrity as guiding principles.
Kwame Appiah Kubi brings a lot of energy, confidence, knowledge, intelligence and production skills to bear on the morning show.
