Mzbel opens up: “Why I don’t miss Castro after his demise”
Ghanaian musician Mzbel has offered fresh insight into her relationship with the late hiplife star Castro, explaining why she doesn’t feel a personal sense of loss despite their many collaborations.
During a conversation on Accra 100.5 FM’s Akwaaba Drive, Mzbel revealed that although she and Castro produced several hit songs and shared incredible creative chemistry, their friendship faded long before his disappearance.
According to her, the shift began when Castro started spending more time with a new circle of footballer friends who, at the time, had more influence and financial strength.
“He stopped giving us the usual attention,” she noted.
“We became just ordinary people to him.
When someone chooses new friends, you don’t force yourself.
So I stepped back.” Mzbel added that she and Castro had not met for years before his demise, making the news feel distant—“like hearing about someone on radio.” Despite the drift, she acknowledged Castro’s extraordinary artistic abilities.
“Working with him was always exciting. Even on songs he didn’t vocally feature on, his ideas shaped the music.
Castro was extremely creative—once he heard a beat, something magical came out. He supported me a lot.” She further mentioned that their paths separated when Castro began pursuing a more international image.
“At a point, we became too local for him,” she explained. “His vision changed, and everyone went their own way.” Mzbel’s reflections highlight a once-solid partnership that naturally grew apart long before tragedy struck.
