Mzbel sparks debate over comments on marriage and multiple partners
Ghanaian musician Mzbel has ignited widespread conversation on social media following comments she made in a viral interview about marriage and multiple partners.
In the interview, the singer expressed that she does not see anything wrong with a married man having more than one partner, a position that has generated mixed reactions among Ghanaians.
According to her, men who form relationships outside their marriages should not automatically be considered sinful, and she suggested that wives should permit such arrangements if they bring happiness to their husbands.
“I don’t see any problem with a man having multiple partners,” Mzbel said in the said interview.
She further questioned why there has been criticism of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba over reports that he had more than one wife.
Mzbel described such arrangements as “nothing unusual,” pointing out that in some cultures and traditions, polygamy has long been practised and accepted.
Her remarks quickly went viral, drawing responses from religious leaders, cultural commentators, and members of the public.
While some people agreed that marriage structures differ across cultures, others argued that her comments conflict with widely held religious and moral values in Ghanaian society.
Several social media users also expressed concern that such statements could encourage the breakdown of trust in marriages, while others defended her right to express her personal opinion.
As of now, Mzbel has not issued any further clarification on her remarks. The discussion, however, continues to trend online, highlighting the ongoing tension between traditional practices, modern views on relationships, and religious beliefs.
