Frank Naro has bemoaned his hit Koom featuring Fameye (Peter) getting no nomination for the 25th anniversary of the Ghana Music Awards, headline-sponsored by Telecel.

He spoke to Nana Romeo on Accra 100.5 FM’s Ayekoo Ayekoo, Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

“We the upcoming in the music industry do not have any record labels, investors, or helpers, so if you see how we work hard to write our songs with good lyrics, borrow to shoot music videos and promote, and eventually get hits, it would have been great to get awarded to inspire others, at least,” the singer said.

“When it doesn’t happen, it pains a lot. But it’s a human activity, and comes with its own limitations. Like football, there are a lot of Ghanaians who are good at football but only 11 or 23 will be called up. It hurts, but that’s what it is,” he added.

“My song Koom was trending, was the talk of town, and was all over Ghana last year. Due to this, I am surprised Koom didn’t get even one nomination,” he argued.

He explained he filed for nomination when the portal was open.

Frank Naro wondered if he was sidelined because he is an actor in addition to his music work, saying, however, if that were the case it would be an anomaly.

He wondered why multiple award-wining acts like “Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Kinaata and others” continuously receive awards instead of the hardworking rising stars on the Ghana music scene.

“It pains a lot that those who struggle and do good music don’t get awards but we leave it all to God,” Naro said. “It hurts a lot that my song Koom didn’t get even one nomination. I don’t understand it.”

According to Frank Naro, his songs are so popular that Highlife/Afrobeats star “Kuami Eugene sings my song, from head to toe, everywhere he sees me, telling me: ‘Frank, you’re the ones doing Highlife, as we add Afro to ours’. He always bemoans why I never appear in the Highlife category year after year. He was with his manager, and he praised my lyricism”.

Naro asserted his music and lyrical talent, citing his hits Abena and Koom, for instance.

"From what we saw during Sarkodie's Rapperholic exhibition last year, he's had enough of these awards," he concluded.
