Turfwey Records set to promote talented artistes
J Derobie credited EmPAWA Music for teaching him the music business and exposing him to valuable experiences that now aid him in managing his own record label, Turfway Records.
He acknowledged the complexities of running a record label but believes it is the best decision in the long run.
Through Turfway Records, he aims to empower and promote other talented artistes, much like EmPAWA did for him.
Speaking on Class Xtra on Class91.3FM with Zeal Nana Kweku Bliss, the Ghanaian artiste shared that his latest Extended Playlist (EP), "Wavez 1 of Firm After All," was created during challenging times in his life.
Released on May 8, 2024, this five-track project marks a new chapter in his career and is his first major release since leaving EmPAWA Music.
Asked about his absence from the media, J Derobie explained that he had been quietly observing the music market and that his latest releases are a testament to his observations.
Following the release of "Wavez 1," J Derobie plans to release the second and third installments of this series later in the year.
This marks a significant statement from the Ghanaian Afrobeats ambassador after his hiatus from the mainstream music scene.
"Wavez 2" is expected to come out later this year, he added.
J Derobie’s breakthrough song "Poverty," released in 2019, garnered him significant recognition and support, including attention from Jamaican superstar Popcaan.
His other notable works include "Grains From Love & Reality" and "Nungua Diaries."
As the eldest child of a single mother, J Derobie took on many family responsibilities. Before his music career took off, he worked at Zoomlion Ghana Limited for almost a year.
J Derobie hopes that music lovers, particularly the Capital Youth Movement, continue to support him on his journey filled with good music.
His project "Firm After All" is available on all digital platforms.
