Uncle Ato reveals why he nearly dropped out of KNUST despite building contractor, political dreams
Gospel star Uncle Ato went to "the best university in the whole world, KNUST, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology" where he studied Building Technology but he once considered dropping out.
He explained on No.1 FM, 105.3, that he was consumed by "passion" and eagerness to launch his Christian ministry.
"It was not easy," he said about fighting the urge to "dropout and become a pastor".
He noted "by God's grace," he finished his studies and before his dream was fulfilled, he "released an album first.
"Then I went to bible school, and got commissioned after."
He said were it not for the spiritual "calling," he likely would have become a building contractor cum politician, given his studies and having served as a Vice Students Representative Council (SRC) President "at a point, dabbling in a little politics".
Drawing parallels between past dreams and present reality, he elated noted he was "now constructing and building lives".
He said he served in the Christian community at KNUST in the Campus Christian Family (CCF) choir, "and at a point become the music director - initially, I was the prayer secretary.
"We started little by little in the university, leading praise and worship, before venturing out."
He acknowledged his music gift "came from my family, and God added his grace to it".
He revealed Gospel star Noble Nketsiah was his cousin "from the same family," for emphasis.
Uncle Ato said both parents of his were singers.
"My father was a carpenter and Methodist. He taught me the trade. And anytime we were not working, he would be singing hymns or old [Highlife] songs like Ohia Ma Adwendwen by Kakaiku or Kyenkyen Bi Adi Mawu [by Alhaji K. Frimpong]," he fondly remembered.
He emphasised his family of orientation was full of singers, joking that were they all to gather as he spoke, it would be clear to everyone present he was not the most impressive talent among his siblings and parents.
"It is only by God's grace that I have shone widely above them," Uncle Ato testified.
"So it's from home, and God has added his grace and anointing to accomplish his work."
Below is a new offering from the singer who is deeply loved for his worship music, often performed in Akan.
