Suhum unites against drug Abuse with massive community awareness float

The Suhum Constituency has mounted a united and powerful campaign against the rising threat of drug and substance abuse, led by the area’s Member of Parliament, Frank Asiedu Bekoe, popularly known as Protozoa.
In a significant show of solidarity, a massive awareness float marched through the principal streets of Suhum to educate the public, especially the youth, on the destructive impact of opioid and substance abuse.
The initiative, widely praised as timely and crucial, attracted broad-based participation from across the community.
The float brought together a diverse coalition of stakeholders, including traditional authorities, the Local Council of Churches, Muslim leaders, driver unions, artisans, health professionals, security service personnel, Assembly Members, and other community influencers.
Their presence and active involvement underscored a shared commitment to tackling drug abuse from the grassroots level.
A key highlight of the campaign was the presence of mental health professionals who engaged directly with community members, offering critical education on the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug abuse.
They also provided guidance on prevention and access to rehabilitation services for those already affected. Mr Frank Asiedu Bekoe’s full participation throughout the awareness float demonstrated his deep concern for the future of Suhum’s youth.
Speaking to Accra FM/CTV News reporter Apelete Kofi-Michel, the MP reiterated his dedication to protecting the younger generation from the scourge of drug abuse.
“Our youth are the future of this country, and we must do everything within our power to safeguard their well-being,” Mr. Bekoe stated, adding that he would continue to lead efforts aimed at youth empowerment and community health.
The Municipal Health Director, Mr. Frederick Kwame Ofosu, also addressed participants, urging young people to stay away from drugs and reminding them of their vital role as the next generation of leaders.
