President John Dramani Mahama yesterday morning paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, ahead of the Maulid celebration later that evening.

The visit was to personally inform the chief imam that he would be unable to attend the event due to his scheduled departure for the United States, where he is set to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

President Mahama conveyed his warm greetings to the Chief Imam and the Muslim community, while expressing regret that he would miss the commemoration.

His personal visit underscored his respect for Ghana’s religious leadership and his commitment to fostering unity across the country’s diverse faith traditions.

The Maulid, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad, is a major event on the Islamic calendar, attracting thousands of faithful from across Ghana.

Meanwhile, President Mahama’s participation in the UN General Assembly highlights Ghana’s continued role in global diplomacy, as world leaders converge in New York to deliberate on pressing international challenges and opportunities for cooperation.

The 2025 Maulid celebration is expected to proceed as planned, with the Muslim community gathering nationwide to observe the important occasion.
