At least 34 people sustained injuries after a passenger bus was involved in a road traffic accident at Asuboi on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the early hours of Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The accident involved a 34-seater KIA Grandbird bus, which reportedly lost control, overturned, and landed on its side in the middle of the highway, briefly disrupting movement along the busy route.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station was alerted at about 2:55 AM and immediately dispatched a seven-member rescue team led by Station Officer II Antwi Forson to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the driver was trapped inside the damaged vehicle, while several passengers had already been rescued by residents and other first responders.
Fire officers used specialised rescue equipment to free the driver, who suffered serious injuries. The remaining passengers sustained varying degrees of minor injuries and were transported to the Suhum Government Hospital for medical care.
Health authorities later confirmed that all the injured persons were responding positively to treatment and that no fatalities were recorded.
Parts of the bus, especially the front section, were badly damaged, highlighting the force of the crash. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
