A/R: Police seize large consignment of Tramadol, arrest 4
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has intercepted a significant consignment of prohibited drugs at the Tweapease Police Barrier on the Obuasi–Dunkwa highway.
The seizure, which occurred on February 13, 2026, involved 257 packs of 50mg tramadol, 58 packs of 250mg tramadol (commonly known as Red), and 58 packs of 225mg tapentadol (referred to locally as Royal).
The drugs were being transported on a red OA Kia Grandbird bus en route to Ayamfuri near Dunkwa-On-Offin in the Central Region.

Upon stopping the bus, police discovered two sealed brown boxes containing the drugs. The driver, 37-year-old Joseph Nkrumah, was immediately arrested. During interrogation, he identified one Perpetual, a native of Ayamfuri, as the owner of the consignment.
The following day, February 14, Perpetual, along with three others—Diana Mensah, 40; Abena Ncyea, 43; and Nana Akua, 35—attempted to bribe the police with GH₵50,000 to secure the release of the drugs. The police confiscated the cash and arrested all four individuals for further investigation.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court today, Monday, February 16, 2026, under provisions of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851), which criminalizes the prohibited sale of drugs, herbal medicinal products, cosmetics, medical devices, and other household chemical substances.
The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has warned that the jurisdiction is hostile to criminal activity and urged criminals to stay away, emphasising that such illicit trade will not be tolerated.
