The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has revealed that Monday’s torrential rains affected 7,761 households across the Greater Accra Region and other parts of the country, with the disaster claiming 12 lives while seven people remain unaccounted for.

Briefing Parliament the Minister said 3,882 individuals have been directly impacted by the flooding, as emergency response teams continue search-and-rescue efforts in communities worst affected by the downpour.

Among the areas severely hit were Alajo, Adabraka, Circle, Kaneshie, Weija, Tse Addo, Ofankor, Pantang, Ashongman Estates and sections of the Tema Metropolis, where floodwaters overwhelmed homes and shops, left motorists stranded, disrupted transportation and forced many residents to abandon their properties.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak extended government’s sympathies to families who lost loved ones and assured Parliament that immediate relief measures are being rolled out to support those affected.

He said personnel from the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service remain deployed to carry out rescue operations, evaluate the extent of destruction and provide assistance to displaced residents.

The Interior Minister added that government is coordinating the distribution of relief supplies to victims while developing longer-term interventions aimed at reducing the impact of persistent flooding, particularly in the capital
