Bawumia calls for state of emergency over flood crisis
Former Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the government to declare a state of emergency to address the flooding crisis affecting parts of the country.
Dr Bawumia made the appeal after touring some flood-affected communities in Accra, including Atala in the Ga South Municipality.
He urged the government to release relief items to support victims displaced by the floods and called for a coordinated national response to the disaster.
Dr Bawumia also appealed to Ghanaians to refrain from politicising the flooding situation, stressing the need for unity in responding to the crisis.
His comments come after torrential rainfall triggered widespread flooding across parts of the Greater Accra Region, resulting in loss of life, displacement of residents and extensive damage to property.
